Innovations to early childhood education!

In the ‘Building blocks of Innovation education’ -project practices of innovation education are co-developed in early childhood education settings! The project started at the end of 2020 and is the first learning environment project for early childhood education in the Innokas Network funded by the National Board of Education. Four municipalities are involved in the project: Lohja, Lappeenranta, Tampere and Sodankylä. The project team includes one daycare unit and an Innokas regional coordinator from each municipality.

The aim of the project is to develop and disseminate innovation education in the early childhood education setting. The work is based on the Innovation process, a model developed in the Innokas Network that supports the fostering of transversal, 21st century competences and innovation and technology competences in line with the dimensions of the digitalizing society. The aim is to adapt innovation education practices to early childhood years by utilizing the competence of the early childhood educators and network experts.

Based on a needs-survey a development plan is drafted for each daycare unit and development work will continue until the end of 2022. At the end of the project best practices will be disseminated nationally. With the aid of the project a network of early childhood innovation education actors is formed and will continue to be active after the end of the project.
