Developing the use of IoT, AR ja VR technology in education

VISIOT, a project in the Innokas Network during 2018-2019, is part of the “New Comprehensive Education” program funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. The project supports the deployment of the new Finnish Core Curriculum by visioning and developing ways to use recently introduced technology: IoT (Internet of Things), AR (Augmented Reality) ja VR (Virtual Reality) in practical education contexts in completely new and pedagogically meaningful ways.

In one part of the project, participants develop practices and materials for the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The goal is to examine the possibilities offered by IoT technology for learning key 21st century skills: observing everyday technology, creative and critical thinking, problem solving and research skills, and practical skills for living, participating and acting in the digital society. For this, Innokas Network makes use of its expertise in helping children learn about everyday and future technologies and related phenomena.

Another part of the project aims to test and develop AR and VR content for education. The goal is to find new ways to teach and learn concepts that are normally hard to understand. In addition, this part of the project aims to employ experience-based learning to engage and motivate learners to learn wide-ranging competence.
